Road Trip to Amritsar

Hello Guys, are you planning to visit Amritsar via road, if your answer is "YES", trust me you are at the right place. I got a chance to go to Amritsar and visit Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh and I would inform you with points that needs to be taken care while your visit.



Amritsar is a city in the Majha region of the Indian state of Punjab. Amritsar was founded by fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das in 1577. It is well connected by Road from National Capital city of New Delhi. One can follow Panipat-Ambala-Ludhiana-Jalandhar route to reach Amritsar. One can take Pitstop at Murthal to eat the famous Paranthas from Amrik Sukhdev or Gulshan Dhaba and Haveli at Jalandhar. It is around 450 kms from New Delhi.

Golden Temple: Golden Temple is also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib (The abode of God) also known as Darbar Saab. It is one of esteemed sites of Sikhism. One can feel a lot of energy while at this place. There is man made pool around the temple which was completed by Guru Ram Das ji in 1577. There are many buildings in the temple complex, Akal Takht, Sikh history Museum and a Langar Hall are a few to name. People take a bath in the pool (sarovar) before visiting the temple. One can also find a number of old trees in the temple complex, one such tree is called Ber Baba Buddha. It is believed that Baba Buddha sat here to administer the construction of the temple. Food is served in the Langar Hall around the clock. One has to sit in rows on the ground to eat the pure vegetarian and simple food.

Golden Temple, Amritsar

Jallianwala Bagh: Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden in Amritsar and is located very near to Golden Temple. This place is famous for the massacre that happened in 1919 on Punjab new year day (Baisakhi). There is a well inside Jallianwala Bagh where numerous people jumped to save themselves from the firing that General Dyer ordered on a group of people. This well is also known as "Shaheedi Kuan". One can alse find a wall where one can cite marks of Bullets and is preserved as a memorializing. There is eternal flame that burns around the clock to pay respect to the people who were killed in the massacre.

Apart from these places one can also visit Wagah-Attari Border where one can witness lowering of the flag ceromony daily.
